"Inside all of us is a champion"

Tony Wiseman, Outlook Founder & Trainer

Imagine what it would feel like to be a World Champion.  To be handed the cup and recognised as the very best!

We may not all be the Wimbledon singles champion, or an Olympic athlete, but every one of us can be a champion in our own lives.  Excelling in our area, whatever that may be, in our work, or maybe a hobby, or perhaps being a parent.  There is no doubt we can do better, and we would feel so great if we achieved what we would like to.

What are the constituent elements to being a Champion?

Firstly you need some skills.  Whether innate or learned, or a mixture, you must achieve a high degree of skilfulness.

Secondly, you’ll need training.  You’ll need a plan to work on and improve your skills.  You may need other skills to compliment your main skill.  You’ll need to decide how much time is needed to devote to this practise and how often you practise.

Thirdly, you need an effective attitude.  Which includes commitment, motivation, determination, vision, belief and desire.  You’ll need a way of overcoming your fears and negative thinking.

And finally you need….

Well, what is the final element to being a Champion?  It’s absolutely crucial, you cannot be a Champion without this element.

I could tell you, but I’d rather you told me, so please respond with your suggestions.

You can not be a champion without any recognition you would need a support group or peers people around you that could see how far you have come or you would need to feel like you have emerged victorious through some challenging journey.

We need to pay attention. And that's the difficult bit; staying on track.

Great reponses, and valuable contributions. But there is something so important and yet so obvious that nobody as yet has posted it. When you know what it is, it simplifies things no end.

Love. And maybe firstly we need love and conviction.
The conviction to love ourselves and accept ourselves as we are, warts and all. Then what we do or do not do is less consequential, as inside we are champion to our own heart.

Three additions to Tony's list:
Lack of competition; spotting an opportunity that others haven't; a heavy dose of good fortune.

@Ish
My first thoughts were: "A plan? No you need action. If you do nothing probably nothing will happen." But making a plan IS a part of the action, but this is not enough.

@Nick
The plan in the heading is a plan for training, not for action (unless you see your training as an action). If you have a plan it must be a flexible plan, you must be willing to change your plan if your action does not work. Always being critical to yourself without losing your belief in yourself.
